North American Alpaca Show results

The North American show has come and gone, and we’re ecstatic with our results! Although we would have really loved larger classes, and more competition, the cria showed well against their peers and we were very happy with what Judge Peter Kennedy had to say about them. Payday’s cria in particular did very well, and their luster is outstanding – as is their uniformity.

Beginning with the ladies first, our little Miss Pickle, as Pica is generally known, placed third in a class of five on the strength of her luster. The white boys also did well, with Silima taking first in the class, with Minno a very close second. The judge had a difficult time deciding, but placed Silly in first due to his strength of bone. Both boys were praised for their excellent luster, uniformity and fineness. VĂrin, who is being treated for hypothyroidism (very common in alpacas), rounded out the ribbons with a fourth.

In the combined dark juvenile males, poor Mori was the only black in the class, and ended up placing fourth behind three browns. His herdmate Kemen took second place, but it was little Cali, our youngest cria, that really surprised us by taking first place in the class. The judge noted that he was the finest overall, with excellent luster, uniformity, density and growth for his age.

Cali and Kemen then competed in the only championship class offered in the suris at NAAS, and Cali came out on top, despite his tender age! Kemen was a strong contender for reserve, but lost out to a yearling. Cali is the second of Storm Girl’s cria to win a banner for us, which is wonderful. It’s also encouraging to see how well Payday’s cria have done, and how their luster really is striking. Payday himself took second place in the Get of Sire class, behind a Snowmass male.
